Lille, a welcoming city
With thousand years of existence, Flemish architecture and classical culture old and modern, Lille is a charming town inescapable.
Deploying baroque facades and colorful, Lille is known for its living host, preserved its heritage and its cultural life. Designated European Capital of Culture in 2004, it developed a strong reputation internationally by hosting events during and artistic creations, 9 million visitors. The ranking of the belfry of the town hall in World Heritage by UNESCO in 2005 increases the influence of the tourist town.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lille welcomes masterpieces of Flemish and Holland schools from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, French and Spanish paintings, Italian paintings painted in Venice from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. To enjoy the art contemporary, the best may be to get a few miles from Lille to visit the Museum of Modern Art in Villeneuve d´Ascq.
Located in nature, it exposes Braque, Picasso, Miro, Modigliani and Fernand Leger.
Lille is also a city with many shops if you take the time to stroll in downtown or Old Lille.
