Paris, city of art and culture
Paris is a concentrate of centuries-old history and treasures of art and culture: remains of the old Lutetia, great medieval abbeys, gothic splendour, classical architecture,...
180 museums and monuments welcome internationally renowned collections of painting, sculpture and decorative arts. You can also go out to meet the contemporary heritage which makes Paris a capital of the arts.
Dance, sculpture, painting, music .... A city in the heart of all creation!
From the Petit-Palais museum (museum of fine arts) to the Palace of Tokyo (Museum of Modern Art) or to the Cernuschi Museum (Museum of Asian Arts); many thematic exhibitions are held continuously.
Paris has always been a source of inspiration for many artists who spread its image worldwide, particularly since the popularity of outdoor painting in the XIX century. Different artists such as Corot, Monet, Renoir, Pissarro Seurat, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cezanne and Van Gogh began to look into Parisian life and the changing urban landscape and painted widely Paris in their work. In the twentieth century, the most Parisian painters are certainly Marquet and Utrillo who are often deprived areas of the city. Matisse, Derain and Vlaminck lead a bohemian life in Montmartre at Laundry-boat while Leger, Modigliani, Chagall, Soutine and Zadkine installed in the workshops of La Ruche in Montparnasse, is the golden age of Paris school which gives way to surrealism after the Second World War.
Our three contemporary art galleries are located in the heart of the capital, in the 4th, 6th and 18th arrondissement.
